The Royal Melbourne Hospital - Victorian Infectious Diseases Service

Provider: The Royal Melbourne Hospital

About this service

The Victorian Infectious Diseases Service (VIDS) provides inpatient and outpatient assistance surrounding the management of travel and tropical diseases including HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, tuberculosis and hospital acquired infections.

VIDS also aims to improve the health of refugees in Victoria by improving clinical services, both at the specialist and primary care level by providing education to general practitioners and other health providers, especially in the field of infectious diseases.

VIDS also conducts translational research to inform ‘best’ clinical practice.

They advocate for optimal clinical care and preventive health for refugees in areas including the Government, NGO’s and other stakeholders.

Asylum seekers who are ineligible for Medicare will not be billed for pathology, diagnostic, pharmaceutical and other services in Victorian hospitals.

All referrals to the Victorian Infectious Diseases service must be sent to 03 9342 4234
